Well it sure feels like we have gone back in time. Since we have had single digit weather it has brought problems along with it. We had our water freeze and had two different breaks in the pipes, water pump went bad and dead batteries in our vehicles. We have been getting water out of our tank buckets at a time. We are heating water on the wood stove for dishes and bathing. We ran out of propane. There has been some positive to all this....
I have been cooking on the wood stove using cast iron skillets. It reminds me of times when that was how people cooked all the time. It helped to pass some time because I wasn't going outside unless I had too. Staying warm by the fire = Bonus.
The battery was charged in one of the vehicles, we have electricity for everything else and the weather will be warming back up soon.
Don't be afraid to try other cooking options you may end up enjoying it. I have come to really like cooking on the wood stove. I want to try to bake bread on it. I will post results later. Biscuits turn out great cooking them that way.
