A few years ago I wouldn't given egg shells a second thought and they would have gone directly into the trash but all that has changed. I have a few uses for the shells including using them to start plants in, grind them up (after they are cleaned & dried) & feed them to my chickens, and compost them. Pepper plants require three things to grow calcium (egg shells), sulfur (matches) and magnesium (Epson Salts dissolved in water). I never had good luck with pepper plants before and now I know why because I never added any of those items to my soil. I have to get credit to Mother Earth Living Magazine May/June 2014 issue for the information about adding Calcium, magnesium & sulfur to pepper plants. To read the full article go to http://www.motherearthliving.com/gardening/vegetable-gardening/grow-a-summertime-container-garden-zmgz14mjzpit.aspx. I hoping to have a bountiful garden this year including several types of peppers by using egg shells. Happy gardening!
